Grief & Unrest

When I was a boy
I met a witch
With a little black cat
And a name that sticks
She’d show me her spells
But she would never tell
How they were done and by the curse of the sun
I never learned
And when silence prevailed
Sorrow turned to flames
A burning beyond my flesh
And written in blood beneath my skin
“Think of my eyes when you’re sleeping
Think of my smile when you wake
Think of my skin when you’re dreaming
Till the day that you break
Think of my soul bound to yours
Beyond ailment or death
But my words will never grace your ears again
So let the dust of your hope be the end”
I’ve made so many mistake
Some that have cost me a lot
But none have come close to the mark
That you left on my soul
And I wither away
To dust and to bone
Swept of by the wind to bring
Grief and unrest
Grief and unrest

Burning

I’ve got no place to call my own
I’ve got all the time in the world
I feel so far away from home
The only home I’ll ever know
I’m setting fire to the skies
The smoke it burns my eyes
I want to feel anything
But this hate inside
The tree in the yard grows nothing
But colder
As the thoughts in my mind
Get harder to tame
When all of this is over
Will I be the same
I overheard the whispers
Just through the shouting at the bar
Talk of a man and his wife
And a brand new scar
I took a walk in the dark
To greet him with a smile
And find out what hides
Behind his eyes
With cruel handed rage, they said
He took her eyes away
And locked her in the dark
To waste away
Without a word
I snuck into the cabin
A place filled with echoes of war
The man who slept in the chair
Was a friend no more
As not to wake his empty gaze
Silently I took her hand
But something went awry
I’d never caused such pain
After all of this is over
Will I be the same
As the night which began to taste
Like embers from a bonfires flame
With a painful scream he shook my soul
I will never be the same
